Consolidation

The biological process in which newly formed bone hardens and mineralizes.

Definition

Consolidation is the phase in which the regenerate formed during distraction mineralizes and matures while fixation continues to protect it. Progress is assessed with serial imaging and clinical findings; it is not complete on a fixed calendar date or after a universal number of days per centimeter. [1]
