Definition
Corticotomy describes a low-energy bone-division technique intended to limit damage to the periosteal and medullary blood supply. In clinical writing, corticotomy and osteotomy are sometimes used inconsistently, and modern percutaneous lengthening osteotomies can still complete the bone division. The operation report should describe the actual technique rather than relying on the label alone. [1]
