Definition

Joint stiffness is a reduction in active or passive range of motion. During limb lengthening it can be associated with pain, swelling, altered muscle-tendon length, contracture, nerve symptoms, positioning, or reduced activity. Management is cause- and protocol-specific and can include therapy changes, bracing, a change in distraction, or surgery. A new or progressive loss of motion should be measured and reported rather than assumed to be routine. [1]
