Definition

Neuropathic pain arises from a lesion or disease of the somatosensory nervous system and is often described as burning, electric, shooting, or painful tingling. During limb lengthening, a new neuropathic pattern can accompany nerve stretch or compression and should be assessed with motor and sensory findings rather than assumed to be routine discomfort. [1]
