Glossary term
STRYDE
A recalled stainless-steel magnetic lengthening nail that was designed for higher weight-bearing; the FDA says it should not be implanted in the United States.
Definition
STRYDE was a stainless-steel magnetically driven intramedullary lengthening nail designed to permit higher loading than earlier titanium PRECICE configurations. Reports of pain, periosteal reaction, osteolysis, and corrosion contributed to safety actions. The U.S. FDA states that stainless-steel Precice devices, including STRYDE, remain recalled from the U.S. market and should not be implanted. It has not been reintroduced as a current U.S. option.
